Schurman/Hushagen Residence
The Innes Arden home was built in the sixties and had not been touched since then. It needed much updating, but the floor plan was fine. The new owners wanted to be respectful of the modern architecture of the home, yet give the home a fresh new look. I designed a lighting plan for the house and a new kitchen using the existing walls and window openings of the old kitchen.
Within the limitations of the relatively small space, we got a well-functioning kitchen with lots of storage space and a small eating area with books shelves. A pantry was build flush with the wall and into the stairwell space and a deep refrigerator from the owner’s previous home, prompted the solution of creating an extra deep counter with room below the upper cabinets for a raised counter area to hold smaller appliances and a microwave. The owner, Jan Schurman added her artistic touch in selection of materials and colors. The result is a fun and functional space.
